Champions of Norrath

Champions of Norrath Overview

Champions of Norrath is a 3d action/rpg(and spinoff from Everquest) with five classes to choose from, and a fully customizable look for your champion. The adventure spans across 4 acts from Faydark Forest, to the Underworld, to the Pit of Dispair, to the Realm of Hatred. Sounds like a cheery game, right?

Graphics

Absolute best water effects you will ever see. As realistic as it gets. Actually, all the models, particle effects, and textures of the 3d objects are very detailed. My only complaint is the fact that most of the time, you are zoomed out, to give you a good view of the dungeon around you. When you zoom in, you can appreciate the graphic goodness, but you can only see about 2 feet around your character.

Overall Graphics: Very Good

Sound/Music

Standard fare of sword clanging, goblin screeching, etc. But the music fits the mood of each location perfectly, with a sort of tragic happiness in the woods, to demonic chanting in the Orc Cave, etc.

Overall Sound/Music: Good

Gameplay

Very solid RPG engine, stat building and leveling up are as great as ever, and there is a huge variety of spells and special abilities to unleash on your enemies. You will never get tired of ripping through the hordes of enemies. One thing that could have been improved was the creativity of the enemies. I'm getting tired of orcs, goblins, beetles, and zombies...

Overall Gameplay: Good

Story

This is why RPGs today have bad reputation when it comes to story. This one is about as generic as it gets. Goblins and orcs are attacking the elves, you kill them, chase their leader into the depths of Hell to kill him. Some of the side-plots made it seem like they wanted to make it MORE generic. "The Horn of Ill Omen is the only way to open the Gate!" "You must release my people from their curse!" But there is also a good deal of humor, so it's enjoyable.

Overall Plot: Below Average

Overall

CON is a very fun and solidly built action/RPG that is whole-heartedly recommended to anyone who loves leveling up.

Overall Score: 4 of 5 Stars

Not downloadable, this is a game sold in stores.
