DarkLightMW's Mario

Overview

Yet another Mario game. It incorporates 5 different worlds that everyone will recognize from the original Mario.

Graphics

It's hard to say, since they're all ripped. Perhaps if they had at least been ripped well, I would give the graphics a good score. But I noticed several things missing. When you get hurt, Mario doesn't flash. When you get a mushroom or other powerup, he doesn't grow, he just suddenly has a different sprite. In all, it seemed that some of the little things that make Mario great were left out.

Overall Graphics: Average

Sound/Music

The music was pretty good, in most of the levels. But the sound was...well, there was no sound as far as I could tell. No jumping spring, or mushroom sound, the least that could have been done would be to add something from the resource pack.

Overall Sound/Music: Average

Gameplay

The jumping was totally messed up. You moved way too fast, and when you land, you do a little hop. But if you got used to that, there are some pretty cool features and great level design in the game, such as jumping off of one side of the screen to appear on the other to reach a platform, or an entire level upside down. One thing off would be the menu, too many keys in the wrong places. And something was wrong with the collision with the enemies, I sometimes died when I was on top of them.

Overall Gameplay: Slightly Above Average

Story

There was at least some dialogue, and it's a little humorus, so I can give this a fairly good rating, but if it's plot that you're looking for, don't try any Mario games.

Overall Story: Slightly Below Average

Overall

With some modifications, like collision checking, a better menu, and some special effects, this could be a game that would easily devour several hours of my life. But, it doesn't have those modifications, so it won't. As it stands, this game is the perfect example of, just average.

Overall Score: 2.5 of 5 Stars
