Psi-Ops

Psi-Ops Overview

Psi-Ops is a game where you play a psychic who is a secret agent for the government. Unfortunately you have lost your memory, and are being guided by another psi-agent, Sara Blake. You use six different powers and four different weapons to beat the crap out of your enemies.

Graphics

The detail on the 3d models of the characters is very good, as are the special effects for your psychic powers, and explosions. However, fire looks floating red fluff for some reason, and it doesn't look very harmful. But otherwise, great artwork.

Overall Graphics: Good

Sound/Music

The music sucks, I have to say that, mainly because you can hardly hear it, even with the music volume all the way up, and the sfx volume all the way down. But the sound is quite good. The voiceovers for your enemies, and the characters in the cutscenes are all full of the correct emotion, and basically just good voice acting overall. I still love hearing my enemies scream "WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!" as I lift them into the air and throw them over a cliff.

Overall Sound/Music: Good

Gameplay

The controls and level design in Psi-Ops are quite ingenious. Gunfights aren't frustrating at all, thanks to the easy strafing, and the wall-walking. Enemy AI is one of the best I've seen, and the stealth elements(such as throwing a box at a wall, and then running past while the guards go "Whoah, I think I took too much medication.") are implemented well. Of course, I can't forget the psychic powers. Telekinesis offers unlimited amounts of fun, with picking up your enemies, and bashing them into the wall over and over. Pyrokinesis is pretty basic, but it's still fun to light people on fire and then see them run around in circles, and light everyone else on fire. Have you ever had the urge to just make your character walk off a cliff? Now, just use Mind Control and have your enemies do it. Use Remote View to look around a corner and see how many enemies there are, and check their patrol routes. Mind Drain restores your Psi, and makes your enemies' heads explode. The only one I didn't like was Aura View, which shows you invisible enemies and remanants of the past. I think it had a lot of potential, but was mainly used as an excuse to put in invisible enemies to give the game some horror.

Overall Gameplay: Very Good

Story

A well-written script and believable characters. I think it could have used a bit more humor, but that's just me. The story unfolds similar to a spy novel, and I think that someone should definitely get the copyrioghts to this and write a whole series based on it.

Overall Plot: Good

Overall

Psi-Ops is one of the best third-person action games out there, with amazing artwork, voice-overs, gameplay, and a good government conspiracy plot.

Overall Score: 5 of 5 Stars
