Losing Enthusiasm

by Eric Swanson

I have been very interested and curious about being naked outside my four walls with other people.  For some time, I have been trying to learn a little about it, cuz I know it is illegal to do it just anywhere.  Well, as I go online to research this new experience, I learn that it is called nudism or naturism.  It is suppose to be a belief in doing activities in the nude, to throw off this textile world and enjoy the world that God created as He originally did, socializing with your fellow nudists.  It has this whole tree-hugger, 70’s mentality to it.

Most of the pictures I see of people on websites are of old people.  Or if it is a picture of a young person you can tell from the hair style that the picture was taken some time ago.  This is all dependent upon actually finding a website that is still being maintained.

Many websites are not being up kept due to lack of interest in the subject any more.  In addition, the forums and bulletin boards on the internet talk about the same things over and over.  Articles on the web talk about the same thing.  Chat rooms seem to be empty.  As far as discussion and expression on the web, it is not fresh and definitely not very attractive for young people addicted to internet and instant gratification to join a club and pay a fee to be nude.

Many clubs that I read about are going under financially.  That forces those clubs that are still running to charge excessive prices to stay in business to make a profit. Advertisements for nudism are all based upon relaxing and enjoying the sun in the nude.  However, why would someone want to pay an excessive price to just sit in the sun nude?  Can’t they do that at home?   So what middle income family or single person would want to pay so much just to be naked?   What is the incentive that you can not find at any other place that will justify such a high price?

I also learned that many clubs do not allow singles especially single men.  So, that basically leaves just couples as an income source for club owners.  But it seems many women, single or couple, have a problem going, due to single males, acceptance of their body, or whatever…name a reason.  So then you are left with married men just going.

So, basically nudism is a white, rich, married, male dominated past time, for those that can actually find a club around their house, that is quickly losing enthusiasm in America.

Maybe it is the lack of interest to be on the internet since the 90’s “Internet Craze” is over that has people shying away from advertising their love of nudism on the internet through banner ads, forums, bulletin boards, and chat rooms.  Maybe it is the War on Terror that has everyone worried about bigger things than being naked at some club.  I am not sure.

Now, I don’t want to be “that guy” that is bashing the belief or people of nudism, but I just wanted to let you know what a single, poor, white, Christian, male views nudism and this whole club culture.  I can’t even imagine what other people of other colors, social classes, religion, or sex think about the marketing job of those in the business of turning a profit off of nudism.

So, to not be “that guy”, I suggest a new marketing plan, not one based on old ideas, but let’s emphasize a new one and see what happens.  Start a marketing campaign or website based on the “Other Side” of the story, a multicultural view.  Get interviews of poor, rich, white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Women, Men, Single, Couple, Divorced, Widowed, young, old and allow people to see or read their thoughts on this subject.  This is no easy task because according to the nudist registry website most of the nudists are white males, but there has to be at least one in each nudist minority group.  Encourage those in a minority group of any kind to speak out, form their own “exclusive minority” clubs, and raise awareness on the ideas and “fun” of nudism within their own comfortable social group.

This will bring in new ideas and new money for club owners and a renewed interested in this old idea of nudism.

So what do you think?…Am I misinterpreting nudism?...Could this idea work?
