Brachioradialis
front of lower humerus and upper radius
Origin: middle of the humerus on the outside
inserts: radius towards the bottom
movement: elbow flexion
Triceps 3 heads on the back of the humerus
Origins: scapula & back or humerus
Inserts: Ulna
Movement: elbow extension, shoulder

Forearm Flexors palm side of forearm
Origins: bottom of humerus, top of radius and ulna
Inserts: metacarpals and philanges (palm side)
Movements: wrist and finger flexion (some elbow flexion)
Forearm Extensors back or hand side of forearm
Origins: bottom of the humerus, top of the radius and ulna
inserts: Metacarpals and philanges on the back side
Movements: wrist and finger extension (some elbow extension)
Deltoids 3 parts -- anterior, middle, posterior, caps the shoulder
Origins: clavicle & scapula
Inserts: middle outside of the humerus
Movement: abduction of shoulder (lifting arm straight the side), horizontal
abduction (moving the arm from straight out in front to straight out to
the side), shoulder flexion, shoulder extension, internal and external
shoulder rotation.
Trapezius (Traps)
Origins: in the back along the cervical and thoracic vertebrae
Inserts: Scapula & clavicle
Movements: shrug shoulders, pulls arms back behind back (i.e. pull-ups) by pulling
the scapulae back towards vertebrae
Latisimus Dorsi (Lats)
Origins: lower 6 thoracic vertebrae, lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, ilium
Inserts: inside of the upper humerus
Movement: shoulder adduction (moving the arm from straight out at the side to
down to the side), horizontal abduction (see deltoids)
Pectoralis Major (Pecs) (Chest)
Origins: clavicle, sternum, 1st six ribs (costal cartilage)
Inserts: inside of the upper humerus
Movement: shoulder flexion, horizontal abduction, internal rotation of shoulder
Erector Spinea
Origins: Ilium, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, lower 7 ribs
Inserts: ribs, all vertebrae, base of skull
Movement: extension of the spine, lateral trunk flexion
Rectus Abdominus (Abs)
Origins: pubis
Inserts: xiphoid process, 5th, 6th, and 7th ribs
Movement: trunk flexion, lateral trunk flexion
External Obliques muscles on the side of the trunk
Origins: lower 8 ribs
Inserts: top of the ilium (pelvis), pubis(pelvis) and fascia of the rectus abdominus
Movement: Lateral trunk flexion, trunk rotation
Quadriceps (Quads) 4 muscles in front of the femur
Origins: front of the ilium, & top of the femur
Inserts: patella, top of tibia
Movement: hip flexion, knee extension
Tensor Fasciae Latae
Origins: front of the ilium
Inserts: Top of the tibia
Movement: hip flexion, and hip abduction
Hamstrings 3 muscles on the back of the femur
Origins: back of the ilium, back of the ishium, back top of the femur
Inserts: back top of the tibia and fibula
Movement: hip extension, knee flexion
Gluteus Maximus the major muscle of the buttocks.
Origins: back of the Ilium (pelvis) and the sacrum
Inserts: femur and fascial band attaching to tibia
Movement: hip extension and lateral rotation
Gastrocnemius back of the lower leg
Origins: bottom back of the femur
Inserts: heal
Movement: Plantar flexion or the ankle (ankle extension, point toes), some knee
flexion.
Soleus back of the lower leg behind the Gastrocnemius
Origins: upper back of tibia and fibula
Inserts: back of heal
Movement: plantar flexion of the ankle
Tibialis Anterior Front of the lower leg
Origin: upper inside of the tibia
inserts: top first metatarsal and tarsal
Movement: ankle dorsi flexion (flex foot up)
