2001-Summer---Sean Hutton, from Yorktown, NY and Duffy Miller from Erie PA, graduate from York College in Pennsylvania and re-locate to New York. Both decide to live off of American cheese and beer while depriving themselves of sun light for the next 12 months. During this time Sean manages to write several songs and Duffy begins to perfect his motionless and emotionless bass style.
2002-Spring—Eric Grande, also from Yorktown, stops watching re-runs of 21 Jump-Street and decides to start playing guitar with Sean. Eric begins writing catchy lead riffs to Sean’s acoustic songs and they decide that it sounds ok. Meanwhile, Duffy makes the call to put off doing laundry for the next 3 years in order to devote time to the bass and learning Sean’s songs. The three call themselves Telestatic and have a fight with each other to celebrate.
2002-Early Summer—After practicing for a few months, Telestatic decides to cut a demo CD and see how many times they can play the same 3 songs until they murder each other. Sean’s younger brother, Mike, is home from college and volunteers to play drums on their demo. They borrow an 8 track and a microphone and in a weekend put together their first 3 song CD. The demo featured the quartet’s influence in the Beatles, early Who, Oasis and Radiohead. The elusive Jimmy Wax was credited with the drumming while it was Mike who actually played them.
2002-Late Summer—A few people enjoy the CD enough to invite Telestatic to play. The band puts together a dozen different originals and they begin playing periodically at different clubs in NYC. People who have the CD praise the songs and particularly the drumming of Jimmy Wax. No one ever hears from him again.
2002-Fall to Summer 2003—After Sean, Eric and Duffy move in with each other the band enjoys several successful shows over the next few months. While recording began in the fall, the guys finally manage to release their 2nd demo CD in March. The delay was caused by the sudden obsession the band had with complex math calculations and constructing graphs. The permanently out of focus TV they have in their place didn’t help them either.
Present---Maybe a full length CD? Maybe Sean re-grows his “side-hair wings”? Check back soon for updates…..
