CALGARY - A security expert is warning business owners in downtown Calgary to watch out for a new type of graffiti.
Dave Rae with Kroll Associates says vandals have used an acid-laced form of "liquid chalk" to leave messages on buildings. It can permanently burn words or drawings into glass. Rae says about 50 downtown buildings have been hit in recent weeks.
He advises companies to regularly monitor their properties to prevent any lasting and expensive damage.
"As soon as they see graffiti, they should take steps to remove it. That's just a good deterrent to try and ensure that more graffiti doesn't join it, and that's especially important with this new substance because the sooner you can remove it, the less likely it is to damage glass."
Rae says no particular type of business is being targetted, but energy companies and government buildings have been among those hit.
Some of the graffiti is directly connected to the G-8 summit.
