Ottawa - Late Wednesday afternoon, the main target of G-8 protesters in Ottawa appeared to be the American embassy. About 500 converged on the embassy from two directions. Some headed to the embassy after demonstrating on Parliament Hill. Others were coming down Rideau Street.

Some protesters remained on the Hill. A small group also continued to occupy an empty house across from the Public Service Alliance of Canada building on Gilmour Street. That's meant as a protest against the lack of affordable housing.

At the peak of the demonstrations, about 3,000 protesters were involved at various locations.

There were some minor incidents of vandalism, mostly involving spray paint. Some police vehicles reportedly had their tires slashed.

So far, only one protester has been arrested. The person was arrested at 1:30 p.m. for violating a probation order by being involved in a demonstration.

One police officer was injured trying to make another arrest. He was pulled from his bicycle at the house being occupied on Gilmour Street.
