TORONTO, June 23 /CNW/ - Two American citizens visiting Calgary in connection with the 2002 G8 Summit were arrested last night following a vandalism incident at the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) yards in southeast Calgary.
At 9:45 p.m. yesterday, Saturday, June 22, 2002, CPR Police observed two individuals, a man and a woman, spray painting railway cars on CPR property at 9th Avenue and 6th Street S.E. As CPR Police approached the pair to make an arrest, the culprits fled the scene on foot. Following a brief foot chase, both were taken into custody and transported by the Calgary Police Service to the arrest-processing centre.
Damage to the two railcars involved is estimated at $7,000. Police seized numerous cans of spray paint and protest activity information from the culprits, who are presently in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre. Investigations by Citizenship and Immigration Canada are ongoing with assistance from the Calgary Police Service.
Charged with Mischief to Property Over $5,000 (one count each) are Fransico Kiko Singh, 22 years, of San Diego, California, and Lindsay Rider MacKinnon, 21 years, of New York, New York.
