CALGARY -- Organizers of the so-called ``People's Summit'' expect G8 leaders in Kananaskis next week will miss the boat when it comes to helping African countries.
The Group of Six Billion summit is being touted as the people's alternative to G8.
Michael Embaie from the African Community of Calgary says the world leaders won't hear the real problems in Africa from the presidents of five countries there.
He says African leaders are part of the problem.
Delegate Virginia Setshedi says the African leaders aren't representing the interests and needs of the African people.
The secretary of Amnesty International Canada, Alex Neve, says there should be strings attached to any G8 aid to Africa.
He says assistance should be tied in part to an improvement in human rights.
But Neve says a number of the G8 countries need to clean up their acts as well, and stop providing arms and weapons to the region.
