Rain, sleet, hail and snow may be no match for a letter-carrier, but hordes of protesters could prove to be.
Canada Post has sent letters to 75,000 Calgary residents and businesses warning postal service may be disrupted during the G-8.
"At this point we don't know -- we're preparing just in case," said Teresa Williams, a spokeswoman for Canada Post in Alberta.
"If the protests or crowds prevent a letter-carrier from entering a building or area, it could be we can't deliver to that building or area."
Downtown buildings will likely be affected, as well as thousands of people whose mail is sorted in the downtown post office at 207 9 Ave. S.
Williams said if protests hit the area, the U of C could also be affected. And the halt on mail delivery could last longer than the two- day summit -- June 26 and 27.
"It's potentially all week," said Williams. "We really don't know what the protest schedules are, but we don't want our customers to get caught off-guard."
Williams said the decision is for employee safety, and because a crowd could keep carriers from even getting near customer buildings -- or the mail.
Mail will also not be delivered or picked up in the Kananaskis security zone, but will be available in Canmore. Affected Calgary mail includes postal codes T2C, T2G, T2P, T2R, T2S, T2T, T3C and T3Z. Normal mail service is expected to resume June 28.
