(Turners Falls, MASS - AP) — A woman from Turners Falls who was bitten by a police dog three years ago is suing the town of Montague and the dog's handler for negligence.

Helen Hanks says that on the afternoon of November 19th, 2002, she had driven home and was getting out when her neighbor's dog ran over and attempted to attack her pet dog, which was in the back seat next to her daughter. She said she was bitten five times as she fended off the attacking dog.

The attacking dog came from the yard of patrol officer John Dempsey.

Hanks' suit against Dempsey and the town of Montague alleges negligence in the training and control of the Dutch shepherd dog named Booker.

Montague Police Chief Raymond Zukowski said he was not aware of the suit, and could not comment on the case as it still is in litigation.
