PELHAM, N.H. (AP) -- A former Pelham police officer has sued the police department's dog officer, alleging that Duke bit him on the leg twice during a 2003 arrest.
The lawsuit in Hillsborough County Superior Court by Andrew McNally claims that the injuries forced him to retire from police work, and that he still suffers pain and numbness that have caused substantial medical expenses.
The suit seeks unspecified damages from Kenneth Owen, a part-time police officer who handle Pelham's dog. Owen, who did not return a call seeking comment, also is a Hampstead police officer and owns the Allbreeds Canine Training Center in Pelham.
According to the suit, McNally and another officer were dispatched to help a despondent man who threatened the officers. And as McNally tackled him and they wrestled the dog bit both while Owen made no effort to call off Duke.
