A southern Alberta Mountie faces six weeks of recovery after being bit by a city police dog in Medicine Hat.
Constable Joel Barrette while he was chasing two suspected car thieves when the dog attacked him, tearing the officer's left calf muscle.
Barrette says the dog ignored orders by his handler -- a Medicine Hat police constable -- not to attack.
RCMP spokesman Corporal Wayne Oakes says police dogs are not trained to tell the difference between a police officer and civilians.
