The Independent Complaints Directorate has laid a charge against the policeman who allegedly set a dog on a suspect at a taxi rank in Mpumalanga. The ICD may also put pressure on Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi to suspend the policeman involved.
Yesterday, the ICD watched the SABC footage of Titus Mahlatse with dismay. While Mahlatse's wounds are healing ... the investigation is heating up.
He is still recovering at the Evander hospital, where he was admitted after the attack on Friday. He alleged that a policeman assaulted him after he was accused of stealing.
The policeman apparently then handcuffed him and set his dog on Mahlatse. Jackie Selebi, the Police Commissioner has since ordered a full investigation.
Mahlatse was shackled to his hospital bed since the attack. However, the shackles were removed after orders from the Police Commissioner. Police have charged him with two counts of housebreaking.
