KABALE - A police sniffer dog here, which was being used to control the crowd during the National Primary Schools Athletics Championship at the Municipal Stadium on Saturday, bit the breast of a young, innocent athlete from Wakiso district, sparking off protests from team officials.

Miss Immaculate Naluma, a P.6 pupil of Buloba Church Of Uganda Primary School in Wakiso district, was playing with her team-mates outside the running arena when she was bitten on the breast by the fierce dog which over-powered its master and pounced on her. The event was halted for over 20 minutes following protests from Wakiso and other officials over the incident.

Team officials who jammed the running track were protesting against the manner in which the police officers had used the dog to harm the innocent girl outside the running arena when the dog was meant to be used to 'clear' non-participants who had crowded the running arena.

The first aid team from Kabale regional hospital however helped to give immediate attention to the little girl. She was treated to anti-tetanus vaccines besides other treatment. Officials argued that other means should be used.
