Thursday was a big night for a local police dog that made national news last year.
Dolpho, the German shepherd, bit a black child in June instead of attacking a drug suspect, who was white. As a result, people in McKees Rocks said Dolpho was racist and had been taught to go after people of color.
For the first time Thursday, Dolpho was reintroduced to the neighborhood. Even though the officers say the dog has been retrained, some residents are wary and don't want the dog back on the street.
Cynthia Faulkner is one of those residents.
"How do we know that that dog will not bite one of our children?" she asked.
K-9 Officer Shawn Barger could not talk about the case on-camera because the case is still in litigation. But off-camera, he did try to allay the resident's fears.
"The dog is not an aggressive animal," Barger said.
Resident Keezer Cram wasn't convinced.
"If he bit a little black boy for no reason, something's wrong with the dog," said Cram. "They need to get the dog out of here."
Dolpho has been back from retraining for a few months, but Thursday was the first time the dog was on the job and out in the neighborhood with the public.
