Today, at noon, around 150 pacific protesters that are part of the Mexican Committee of the Hemispheric Campaign against the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) gathered at the "Angel de la Independencia" to protest against free-trade and the loss of sovereignty the Mexican Pueblo suffers. "No FTAA, No WTO, No Nafta" could be read on a gigantic banner they were able to hang from the top of the historic monument popularily called "El Angel". The symbolic act sought to give a critical meaning to the historical date of February 5, Day of the Mexican Constitution, in memorial of which President Fox gave a speech this morning at 9am.
At the bottom of the monument, the protesters hung up another set of banners, among others "No FTAA, Another Americas is possible" signed by the Hemispheric Social Alliance, in front of which in a festive atmosphere a rock band was getting ready to play.
In a short time, about a hundred Robocops arrived. At first, they acted to free up the entrance of the monument, while others went up the Angel to take down the banner. Protesters showed no sign of resistance and went on with a press conference, proceeding afterwards with an invitation to the participants and the curious wanderers to listen to the music band.
But suddenly, without any act of provocation since everyone was waiting the begginning of the show, the Robocops violently broke in the crowd, with the clear objetive of arresting indiscriminously some of them.

pacíficos
Hoy, a las 12 horas, 150 manifestantes pacíficos
en la capital mexicana integrantes del Comité
Mexicano de la Campaña continental contra el
Área de Libre Comercio de las Américas (ALCA)
tomaron el Angel de la Independencia
para protestar contra el libre-comercio y la pérdida
de soberanía del pueblo Mexicano. "No ALCA, No OMC, No
TLCAN" era el mensaje inscrito en una manta gigante
que lograron desplegar desde la cima de este
importante monumento histórico que la gente llama
popularmente "El Angel". El acto simbólico buscó dar
un significado crítico a la fecha histórica del 5 de
febrero, Día de la Constitución Mexicana, promulgada
hace 86 años, cuya conmemoración fue el objeto de un
discurso del Presidente Fox a las 9 de la mañana.
Al pie del monumento, los manifestantes colgaron otras
mantas, entre otra "No al ALCA, Otra América es
posible" firmada por la Alianza Social Continental, al
pie de la cual en un ambiente festivo se preparaba a
tocar una banda de música rock.
En pocos minutos, llegaron un centenar de
elementos policiales que
en un primer momento despejaron la entrada del
monumento, mientras otros policías subieron a la
cumbre del Angel para quitar la manta. Los
manifestantes no mostraron resistencia y procedieron
con una rueda de prensa para luego invitar al
contingente de organizaciones y a los curiosos a
escuchar al grupo de música.
Pero de repente, sin que haya actos de provocación
puesto que todos esperaban el inicio del espectáculo
musical, los policías anti-motín entraron
violentemente entre los manifestantes, con el claro
objetivo de arrestar indiscriminadamente a algunos.
Fueron Arrestados 19 compañeros miembros de las
organizaciones del Comité Mexicano de la campaña
continental contra el ALCA, entre los que se encuentran Héctor de la Cueva de la Alianza
Social Continental y Enrique Pérez de la Asociación Nacional de Empresas Comercializadoras de Productores del Campo.
