MIAMI, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- An anti-trade march by the group Root Cause filed into Miami-Dade County Tuesday heading for Miami's downtown, where a rally was scheduled for later in the day.
The protest march against negotiations for the Free Trade Area of the Americas began near Fort Lauderdale at noon Sunday.
It is 34 miles long, one mile for each of the 34 countries participating in the talks.
Another march took place in downtown areas protesting the tobacco industry's involvement in the talks.
There have been five arrests for minor offenses near the meeting site and a bag containing four gas masks was confiscated.
Preliminary talks in the hotels are in their second day with the two-day ministerial meeting set to start Thursday. A decision on where the headquarters of the FTAA should be located was delayed until next summer.
Thousands of demonstrators are expected by Wednesday and Thursday.
