WASHINGTON — Congress plans to spend $25 million on security for next summer’s G-8 summit of world leaders in Sea Island — money that would include overtime pay and the hiring of extra law enforcement officers to handle protests.
The funding for the summit is part of a handful of domestic rojects lawmakers included in an $87 billion package that mainly pays for future combat and reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Other domestic priorities in the bill include money for the political conventions and to combat the California wildfires.
Although negotiators finished working out the details of the package Thursday, final votes in Congress may not come until next week.
