Get ready for more restrictions downtown as police step up security for the G8. Friday, police announced details of a fence and traffic closures in and around the Telus Convention Centre.
City police will put up a fence around two square blocks of Calgary's downtown on Monday night.
They say it's to minimize traffic disruptions and keep delegates and international media safe.
But protesters claim putting up a fence could lead to more violence.
The 42-inch low profile fence will be set up late Monday evening. It will surround a two block area around the Telus Convention centre until Thursday evening when the summit ends.
Calgarians who work downtown say they've no problem with the new security measures.
Police say the new access control area, as they call it, will have little impact on traffic or public access into the downtown.
News of the fence brought a strong reaction from activists who say it will be seen as yet another provocation by police.
