CALGARY - During the G8 Summit there will be numerous security measures implemented the week of June 24 - 28.

Although every effort has been made to minimize the inconvenience the G8 Summit will cause Calgarians, the following transportation, access and service restrictions and interruptions will be in effect during that week.

There will be some restrictions on airport access, downtown parking and LRT service to the Telus Convention Centre and some City of Calgary services will be interrupted.

    Calgary International Airport roadway restrictions

G8 Summit Security request motorists note the following measures that will be in effect from 0500 (5 am) Tuesday, June 25 to approximately 0200 (2am) Friday, June 28:

Expect minor motor vehicle delays in the vicinity of the airport. Please add an extra 30 minutes to your regular travel time.

Airport Trail will be closed at both its Deerfoot Trail and Barlow Trail access points. Motorists approaching the airport from the south are advised to use McKnight Blvd. and Barlow Trail. Approaching from the north, use Country Hills Blvd./112th Avenue N.E. and Barlow Trail. Expect delays at the intersections of Barlow and McKnight, and at Barlow and Country Hills Blvd.

Northbound and southbound McCall Way will be closed to all vehicles at the intersections of McCall Landing (northbound) and 78th Avenue N.E. (southbound). The only exceptions are Emergency Services personnel and Calgary Transit Route 57.

While Calgary Transit service to the airport via Route 57 (Airport, Marlborough) will continue, passengers should expect brief delays as the bus stops at security checkpoints.

Access on Aero Road will be restricted to Emergency Services personnel, employees of Nav Canada and the Calgary Airport Authority, and individuals conducting business at either of these facilities.

The Park & Jet facility, near the intersection of Airport Trail and Barlow Trail, will remain accessible to motorists via Barlow Trail.

At the airport itself, there will be a strictly enforced ban on unattended vehicles curbside arrival/departure levels at the air terminal building. Police officers, members of the Corps of Commissionaires, and towing vehicles will be on hand to enforce this ban.

G8 Summit Security thanks motorists for their co-operation and asks that they follow posted signage and the direction of police officers.

Downtown parking lot space will be very limited.

Calgary Parking Authority has announced that certain restrictions will be in place in all its downtown lots from 0500 (5am) Friday, June 21 through to Sunday morning, June 30.

No overnight parking will be permitted in any downtown CPA lot; any vehicle left after the posted closing time will be towed.

The CPA parkade at the Telus Convention Centre will be closed to the public from 1800 (6pm) Sunday, June 23 through to 0500 (5am) Saturday, June 29. The McDougall and Civic Plaza parkades will be open for monthly parkers only during that week, and McDougall will be completely closed on Sunday, June 23.

Monthly parking permit holders should contact their parking lot operator for further information.

Some plus15s will be closed, and the LRT will not stop at the Telus Convention Centre.

A complete list of Plus 15 closures, and any further changes in Calgary Transit service, will be posted at www.gov.calgary.ab.ca as soon as they are confirmed.

The LRT platform at the Convention Centre will be closed from June 24 through June 27.

Public access to the Municipal Complex will be restricted. If you have in-person business to do with The City downtown, we suggest coming in before or after these days of restricted access.

Special G8 security measures will go into effect throughout the Municipal Complex at 1630 (4:30 pm) Friday, June 21, and remain in force until end of day Thursday, 27 June.

The Municipal Complex includes City Hall, the Municipal Building, the Administration Building and the Public Building.

Public access to the Municipal Building will be limited to the Plus 15 entrance at the south end of the atrium. The public will only be allowed into the Municipal Building between 0800 (8 am) and 1630 (4:30 pm) June 24 through 27. All City Call Centres will be fully operational, and it will be business-as-usual for City operations outside the downtown core.

Customer services normally provided on the 3rd floor of the Municipal Building, will be relocated to an area on the Plaza level, near the south Plus 15 entrance, but will be limited to drop-offs and cheque payments only for the following:

    Payments to City Cashier
    Property and Business Tax payments
    Building and Planning applications
    Business licensing
    Payments for ambulance services
    Payments for dog licenses
