EXERCISE - PASSIVE VOICE

Change the following sentences to the passive voice, keeping the verb in the same tense as in the active sentence.

1. The people of Malaysia will elect a new president next year.

2. Farmers in Columbia grow many kinds of flowers.

3. The lumber industry is destroying the boreal forest.

4. The organizers cancelled the bullfight because of protests by animal rights activists.

5. Government inspectors have tested the water in the St.Lawrence River for contamination.

6. People can buy automatic weapons over the internet.

7. The workers are going to demolish the old movie theater.

8. The United States has not signed the Ottawa Treaty (a treaty which bans the production, use, export, and stockpiling of landmines).

9. Diesel fuel produces a greater amount of pollution than gasoline.

10. When I arrived downtown, people were filming a movie on St. Catherine Street.
