SIMPLE PRESENT

 

To construct the simple present:

          i) For the verbs be and  have, use the chart given on the

               Forming the Verb Tenses page.

          ii) For other verbs, if the subject is 3rd person singular (he/she/it)

                a) and the verb ends in the combination consonant-"y", change

                   the "y" to "ie".

                b) and the verb ends in x, s, sh, ch, or a vowel, then add

                   an "e".

                c) add an "s".

 

Third person singular examples (spelling rules used are in parenth­eses):
