Kiriena Annin doch' Proskurniana (I think I have this right) is the bastard daughter of Anna Stepanova zhena Proskurniana. Anna had her child by accident while having an affair with, she says, a German nobleman. Kiriena doesn't really believe it, but she will accept it for the moment. Anna is married to Stepan Vasil'ev syn Proskurniana, though she is no longer favored because of this affair. Kiriena has two older half-brothers and one older half-sister. Her father has never forgiven her mother for her bastard, and now openly takes mistresses. Stepan also beats Anna, usually when reminded that there was a daughter not his own, and so Kiriena left when she was 16. She had many adventures along her way, most of them not very nice, but she has survived. She currently lives in Italy, having found her way there in a very roundabout sort of way. She is being courted by a young artist and aspiring poet, Timotheos of Alexandria.
