In general, I have a fairly wide collection of music, from all sorts of genre's. For the most part, I listen to soundtracks of musicals, with occasional movies thrown in for fun. I'm a huge fan of musicals...I'm sure you would have never guessed. The composer I have the most of right now is Andrew Lloyd Webber, partly because he is one of the more prolific writers. I'm looking to get Cats, Sunset Boulevard, and Evita, since I have the Madonna version, but not the original. I have the original Broadway recordings of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon by Boublil and Schönberg, though not of their latest project, Martin Guerre. I would like to get a copy of the concert version of Les Mis. My ex-roommate, Mimi, had it, but I've never gotten around to getting it...
The two musicals I'm addicted to at the moment is The Secret Garden and Chess. Well, Chess is an ongoing addiction, but Secret Garden is relatively new. I play these constantly, which Tim knows, and he's probably completely sick and tired of them by now. In any case, I'm sure you can tell that I am completely addicted to musicals in general. I don't like everything I hear, but I do like most of them.
I do like music that isn't musicals, contrary to popular belief. Currently, what I am listening to the most is Weird Al Yankovic. He's truly bizarre in a fun and interesting way! And if you listen closely to the lyrics, you realize how sick and twisted this man is! In general, I am happy to listen to anything that gets put in the CD player. I can't stand most country music and don't really like most heavy metal. The one exception to this is a group called Savatage. There aren't that many groups out there that sing 4-8 part braided harmony! My favorite album is Dead Winter Dead, which is a tribute to Sarajevo and all the problems the people of that city have had. It's very sad and has a beautiful version of "Carol of the Bells" with all sorts of other bits thrown in. You won't believe it unless you hear it.
I also like to go do karaoke with lots of people. Yay, Mi-chan!! Mimi has succeeded in addicting me to doing karaoke, and will even get me to sing Japanese songs with her....when I know them, which isn't all that often. She has not completely converted me to the worship of L'Arc en Ciel, but she's working on it....
