Greetings from the beautiful state of
Washington!
The last time I updated our page, Erik and I had just
moved from Balikpapan, Indonesia to Mt. Vernon, Washington. Yes, that was quite a move! Not only were we faced with finding jobs, a home, etc. We were also in the process of relearning how to live on this side of the world. For Erik, it had been a two year adventure which included not only our life in Balikpapan, Indonesia but also our travel throughout South East Asia and New Zealand, ending with a 17 day journey by sea from Singapore to Los Angeles. For Martha, it meant returning to life in the states after 3 years in Indonesia, 2 years in Kenya and 3 years in Ecuador not to mention a few years on the Navajo Nation. Both of us have been blessed with the opportunity of seeing a wide a wonderful world that will forever change our perspective on how we view the world we live in whether it be in the jungles of Borneo or the farmland of Washington. People always question why we would give up this life of adventure and "settle" in "Small Town, America." We have learned that life is a journey and an adventure no matter where we live. We have learned to look at our surroundings and the people we encounter with the same wander and awe no matter where we might find ourselves. People and places are incredible and exotic everywhere if you look at them with that same awe and curiosity.
Erik and I have now been in Washington two years now.
Erik has a job he really loves taking care of water and wastewater systems. His job is challenging and involves traveling around our incredible countryside everyday. Martha is starting her third year teaching in Mt. Vernon. She teaches at a wonderful old school in our neighborhood. We have a 100 year old house. It is definitely a "fixer" and we are enjoying making it uniquely ours. We love our neighborhood and our town. It is a great place to live and learn.
We hope that you will enjoy exploring our website and
seeing some of our adventures. Hopefully, it will not take me a year to update. But hey, there are walls to paint, kids to teach, tulips to plant etc...
Thanks for visiting.
