Erik James Sherwood

Was born on February 14, 1968 in Connersville, Indiana a small town roughly 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis. He was raised primarily in Indianapolis, Indiana, where his imagination was nourished with heavy doses of Star Wars, Star Trek and Evil Knievel. A definite artistic talent arose from Sherwood beginning from the 1st grade with the constant achievement of "class artist" and growing interests in creating music which allowed him to play the violin in a preschool orchestra for several years beginning with the 4th grade. Ironically, a good deal of his pubescence was also spent playing little league sports, 5 years of football and 5 years of baseball, which served only to sharpen his appetite for more earthly and challenging pursuits.

Shortly after completing the 6th grade his mother, Rebecca, a true pioneer woman in every respect, deemed it necessary to venture to the "Last Frontier" of Fairbanks, Alaska, envisioning an enriched wilderness environment to further raise her 2 sons. His Mother was right.

A whole new world was opened to Sherwood. Sports involvement changed to Basketball and Soccer. Hobbys consisted of climbing on a three wheeler or dirt bike and riding to areas where no man has ever set foot before. Whether it was during the 24 hours of daylight known as the "Summer Solstice"or under the buzzing electricity of the Northern Lights which were abundant during the winter periods. A true desire to seek out and explore added to the fuel of his inspiration. Interests towards Astronomy and new outlets for expressing his arttistic talent grew rapidly. He became intrigued with photography, pottery, painting and even a more mechanical approach to design known as drafting. Once he completed his pre-college education and graduated from North Pole High School, a new adventure awaited him in the lower 48.

More Irony in Sherwood's life as he found himself driving down the Alcan to discover that his destination would be not only his place of origin but also a focal point in his life's adventures. He soon found himself faced with an opportunity to work for Dallman Industries in Indianapolis, Indiana which was a company on the brink of something interesting. ATM enclosures. It seemed that one of the avenues he found so interesting would be his introduction into the work force. After a year of doing elevations, renderings and site planes he was given the opportunity to relocate to SanDiego, California to work as a draftsman for Couvrette Building Systems who happened to be the leading manufacturer of ATM enclosures. He couldn't resist.

He decided to attend classes full-time and later received his degree in Graphic Design and Computer graphics from Platt College in San Diego, CA while also working his way from drafting into developing a graphics design position. Sherwood moved to Roanoke, Virginia shortly after graduating where he began working as a staff artist at Virginia Institute's Engineering, Science and Mechanics dpt. (ESM) doing displays and diagrams for a few of the professors. He was able to employ artistic imagery into a strange mixture of thesis books, class assignments and botched science experiments. He also began freelancing to various art studios, small business's and even his recent employer, Couvrette Building Systems.

He was coerced into dedicating his talents on a full-time basis to Couvrette once again due to their desperate need for draftsmen and a graphic artist. He began working under the guidance of an Architect and was taught the rudimentary skills associated with ACAD design and PC computing. He evolved form doing mechanical design into developing and management of paint and graphics. Once he trained an individual to take over his production responsibilities, he used his talent, organization skills and experience to provoke yet another opportunity, ironically relocating him back to the corporate headquarters in SanDiego, CA.

Situating himself in SanDiego once again, Sherwood began to find himself involved with every aspect of design from marketing media, proposal layout & design to consulting his superiors on the further development of an in-house signage dpt. He felt that his goal had been achieved on cost reductions relating to the production and application of signage in-house. Interests have shifted over to web design and riding his motorcycle on stretches of freeway and whindy canyon roads where millions travel each day, an endless search for a new adventure...
