Disclaimer: The characters of Fox Mulder,
Dana Scully(-Mulder), and Margaret Scully
aren't mine as they belong to Chris Carter,
1013 Productions, and the FOX network. However,
the character of Katherine (Scully) Mulder is
mine.
Author's Note: I had received numerous requests
from my beta readers to write a sequel to "Truth
Is Within Me" so here it is. This story takes place
in the alternate universe of the Discovery/A Twist
Of Series Universe. I got this idea about this story
because I wanted to explore what would happen to
Katherine (Scully) Mulder if Scully had died in
childbirth, and I wondered how Mulder react.
Dedication: To Kim and Lauren M. for their support
of my writing.
Feedback: Much appreciated and welcomed. =)
Summary: Mulder reflects what happened to Scully
after meeting his daughter, Katherine, and why he
was separated from Katherine.

THE TRUTH IS IN YOU
Written by: Erin M. Blair
--------------------------------------

I can't believe that my daughter...Scully's
daughter, Katherine Dana, is alive. She's standing
before me now, and I can see how much she resembled
my Scully with her long auburn hair, china doll
features, and her height. Katherine has the same hazel
eyes as I do, but that's it. She has the same desire
for the truth like Scully and I had. Like her mother before
her, Katherine is a forensic pathologist and taught at
Quantico for two years.

For two years...

I could have found Katherine sooner if I had known that
she was here under my nose.

I wished that I had known that Katherine was alive. For a
long time, I believed what Mrs. Scully said to be the
truth...that both Scully and our daughter was lost to me.

You know what they say?

Believe the lie.

And I did.

Scully's still dead, but I believe her spirit...her soul...is
in our daughter. That's she still watching over me.

I want to believe that. I want to believe that Scully's spirit
is here within me and our daughter. I wonder what she
would have said about the fact that Katherine believed I
didn't want to see her because she looked so much like her
mother.

That's not true. I wanted her to be near me always. When Scully
told me that we were going to be parents, I was thrilled for the
both of us. We spent months talking about all our dreams for our
child. We knew it was going to be a girl because we didn't want
to wait...

"The baby's going to be a girl, Mulder!" Scully exclaimed,
with a look of joy as she hugged me. She looked up at me
with a smile on her face. "We're going to have a girl."

I just couldn't believe it... A little girl. We had her name
already picked out after months of debating. Samantha and
Melissa were too predictable, but I wanted to name her Dana. Scully
wasn't too thrilled with the idea so she suggested Katherine
Dana. The name fitted our daughter so well.

"Agent Mulder?" Katherine asked.

I came down to Earth to face reality as I looked up at her,
and I knew that she was having a hard time figuring out what
to call me. I'm her father, but she doesn't know me. You don't
know what this makes me feel...

Hearing her low voice call me "Mulder" brought tears to my
eyes as I remembered Scully, my beautiful partner, wife,
and the mother of the young woman standing before me now. She
died giving our daughter life, and she wanted her...our
daughter...to grow up.

And she had.

"Yes, Katherine?"

She was holding a manila file. "What's this?" She handed
me a file. I know this file only too well, and it was
about Scully's abduction. I didn't want to tell Katherine
about it, but I had to tell her. She's my daughter as well
as Scully's. She's also my partner. It was hard to believe
that my daughter replaced her mother as my partner.

I drew a deep breath, and sighed. "Katherine, why don't you sit
down in that chair. OK?"

"All right," Katherine said, as she sat down in the chair from
her mother's desk. It was now her desk. "Is this about Mom?"

"Yes, it is," I replied. "That file was about your mother's
abduction..."

"Mom was abducted?" Katherine asked, skeptically. She had arched
her eyebrows like Scully used to do.

Like mother, like daughter. Is there anything that Katherine
inherited in me besides the hazel eyes?

"Yes, she was. She was taken by Duane Barry who wanted to trade
her to be experimented upon..." I paused. This was hard for me
to talk about even now... "I searched for her to no avail, but
she showed up at Northeast Georgetown Medical Center in a coma."

"Oh my God," Katherine sighed. She looked at me thoughtfully
with the understanding in her eyes. "Mom recovered from
this, right?"

"I don't think that you could forget something like that. Your
mother lost three months in her life, but she only regained tiny
flashbacks of what happened..." I answered, as I noticed that
Katherine had handed me a tissue to wipe away the tears. "Anyway,
I think that's all I have to tell you..."

"You don't know how much this means to me, ummm---Dad,"
Katherine replied, as she attempted to call me "Dad". I can
tell that she was touched by what I told her.

"I think that I do know, Katherine. We share the same desire
to find out the truth," I said, with a sigh. "I think that your
mother would be so proud of you... I remember telling her when
she had cancer...before she was in remission...that the truth is
in her."

"Mom had cancer?"

"You didn't know that?"

"No," Katherine whispered.

"No one ever told you?" I asked. I saw her shake her head, and
I sighed. "Nobody?"

"Grandma hadn't told me this and neither did Uncle Bill or
Uncle Charlie," Katherine said, with a sigh. "Is that the
reason why Mom died?"

"I don't know," I said, with a sigh. It was true. I had no
idea what made Scully die. I could tell that our daughter
was blaming herself for Scully's death. I couldn't let this
happen. I realized that she must have felt this way all of
her life. "It's not your fault..."

"It is," Katherine said, with a whisper. "I killed my own
mother... She probably hates me..."

"No, Katherine. You're wrong. She loves you. You were the
gift that your mother wanted so badly. We thought that
she couldn't have children."

"She wanted me?"

I nodded.

"How come she died?"

"We'll never know, Katherine. I don't know why your mother
lost so much blood during your birth. However, I do know
that she's within you."

"Mom's with me?"

"Yes, she's with you. You know what I had told your mother
was true, but the truth is in you."
