CBS and it's clear that when the networks put the right programming
options on (translation: diversified) viewers will tune in. But in a
surprise victory, NBC's combination of Friends (#1, 18.4/27), Will &
Grace (news - Y! TV) (R 8:30 p.m. #2 13.2/19, 9 p.m. #2 13.0/18), Just
Shoot Me (#2, 11.7/16) and ER (#1, 18.3/27) bested Survivor night on CBS
by an average 15 percent. Although not nearly as potent as its first two
season-enders (see track below), the two-hour finale of CBS's Survivor:
Africa scored a still impressive 14.9/21. Head-to-head that's 6 percent
above NBC's 8-10 p.m. sitcom average (14.1/20).
