Mekhi Phifer Joins ER in April

ER doesn't have to worry about a doctor shortage with Mekhi Phifer
(Brian's Song, O, Clockers) scheduled to arrive April 4, just weeks
before the departure of Anthony Edwards. Phifer's character, Gregory
Pratt, is an intern who is scheduled to return as a second-year resident
in the fall.
ER "is a very intelligent show, very fast-paced. The audience
gets engulfed in what's going on," says Phifer, who begins shooting
on the popular NBC drama next week. "If I was going to work on a TV
show, it would be a show of that caliber."
Phifer, 27, will get some guidance from a veteran ER hand, because
his character will shadow Edwards' Dr. Mark Greene in his initial
appearance. Edwards is leaving the show after this season; Eriq La
Salle, whose December goodbye was premature, will make a final visit
this spring.
