"Be Patient"
Original Air Date:
February 24, 2000
Episode Number:   #129
Director:  Ken Kwapis
Writer: Sandy Kroopf
Description:  Kovac witnesses a car hitting 10-year-old Laura Williams (KAYLI and KELSI DeGREGORIO) then speeding away. Unable to wait for an ambulance, Kovac enlists a plumber to rush the young victim, via the plumber's truck, to the hospital while Kovac administers to her. At the hospital, Benton operates on Laura's life-threatening liver laceration. Benton believes the girl would not have survived if Kovac had followed procedure and waited for the paramedics. Much to the chagrin of Corday, her mother and David Greene are having a sexual relationship. Corday and Isabelle resolve some of their disagreements. After reading his father's x-ray, Greene learns that his dad suffers from incurable lung cancer. Isabelle, David, Corday and Greene go bowling together. Later, Greene talks to his dad, who admits he already knew about the cancer. Hathaway tries to help two young, sexually active schoolgirls, Andrea (CARA DELIZIA) and Terri (RACHEL CRANE). A medical test reveals 14-year-old Andrea's cervical cancer, which is due to infection from a sexual partner. Hathaway informs her that she needs surgery. But Andrea doesn't want her parents to discover her sexual promiscuity and leaves with Terri. Later Andrea attempts suicide and returns to the er. Andrea survives, and Hathaway tries to convince her to tell her parents. Carter goes through an excruciatingly painful physical therapy session and then returns to his wheelchair. Barbara Knight (GWYNYTH WALSH - "The Crush"), Lucy's mother, removes Lucy's belongings from her locker. She visits Carter and talks with him about her daughter's final moments of life. Benton and Cleo go out on another date.
