ORANGE RECORDS OR 4444. USA. 1998
FROM THE BOOKLET: After the Beatles invaded the United States back in January 1964, and as Elvis had done before them, the Beatles spawned a barrage of novelty records. But, unlike Elvis, the novelties kept coming long after the group's initial impact. Many Beatle novelties made the Billboard and Cashbox charts (i.e. "We love you Beatles" by the Carefrees). Others were released on a very limited basis or, in some cases, to D.J.'s only.
In all over five hundred novelty records were released on this musical phenomenon know as the Beatles. Not since Frank Sinatra and Elivs has there ever been a more influential and lasting presents in the world of music both in 1964 and now.
Besides novelities about the group, there were songs about the individual memembers. Ringo was the most popular one with songs like Neil Sheppard's "You can't go far without a guitar (Unless Your Ringo Starr,) and "Ringo I love you" by Bonnie Jo Mason or better known as Cher. There were several Paul novelties ranging from "A letter to Paul" by Tracy Steel to "the Ballad of Paul" by the Mystery Tour. John also wsa the subject of novelty recordings, "Let John and Yoko Stay in the U.S.A. (about his immigration problems) by the Justice Department and "John you went too far this time." by Rainbo (Rainbo was actually an as yet unknown Sissy Spacek singing about John and Yoko's nude cover photo on Two Virgins). There were fewer novelties about George Harrison than any of the other Beatles and most of those that were recorded centered on his "My Sweet Lord"-"He's so Fine" copyright infringement case. One of the best of these was "George Harrison Outtake (1970)" by the Blowfish (Paul Lovell).
There were also quite a few anti-Beatle novelties including "I'm better than the Beatles" by Brad Berwick, and "I Ain't no Beatles" by Jack White.
There most recognizable feature of Beatles was their hair and this fact didn't escape the novelty artists - there were the Twilters' "My Beatle haircut", "I want to hold your hair" by the Bagels and "The Beatles Barber" by Scott Douglas to name just a few.
There were answer songs to some of the Beatles' biggest hits. Songs like "Only Seventeen" by the Beatle-ettes (this was a answer to "I saw her standing there).
Finally, after the Beatels broke-up, there were many novelties, "Get Back Beatles" by Gerard Kenny and the New York Band and "Come Back Beatles" by the People being two of the best imploring them to reunite.
This series of compact discs "Flabby Road" and "Flabby Road II" is filled with the very best and rarest of these Beatles novelities, and is a fitting compliation to the groups overwhelming invastion of the United States and the world of music.
Whether you're an old pro at collecting Beatles novelties or a newcomer to the field, we hope that this series of compact discs will fill a niche in your collection.
