WORK

I create an abstraction based on a reduced colour palette; this sobriety takes me back to ancient times... ( dark carmine, natural shade, chesnut).

I admire the patina which noble materials acquire as time goes by... the way they are transformed and improved; the way they develop their own personality and a solid character. How to interpret that essence and take it to our everyday world is what troubles me most. How to provide recent works of art with an ancient soul, as this is what really matters and moves you when contemplating a  particular object, work?

I try to show in my works what fascinates me from the antique world. In order to do that, I have used old techniques such as painting in tempera, painting on gold created through water and burnishing. That is the way I obtain a work which is, on the one hand, contemporary and based on a taste for material and, on the other hand, which takes you back to older times.

I do not consciously choose the subjects I am going to paint. In fact, I obtain that essence from the rust in ancient stone walls, from peeling paint layers one on top of the other, from stone ruins created by the inclement weather... I understand the creative process as another language, as a mixture of colours, textures, opposing forces and strange densities...
