Nobel for Argentinean Biologist
The Cordoba Biologist Raul
Montenegro who had already received the Global Prize 500 of the United Nations
in Belgium (1989), the Prize for a Future Free of Nuclear in Austria (1992), and
even before the Prize to the Scientific Investigation of the University of
Buenos Aires (1971), it will be rewarded with the Prize Alternative Nobel (Right
Livelihood Award).
The delivery of the Prize will be carried out December 9 in the Swedish
Parliament from Stockholm; it will be shared with the Organization Russian
Defender of the Human Rights "Brief"
and the militant of the Human Rights Bianca Jagger, the
singer's of the Rolling Stones former wife Mick Jagger.
Montenegro, current president of the Foundation for the Defense of the
Atmosphere (FUNAM) and regular professor of Evolutionary Biology in the National
University of Cordoba, obtained his prize for his work to
the front of antinuclear activities, the creation of protected natural areas,
the discovery and accusation of deposits of toxic residuals, the combat to the
chemical contamination and for magnetic fields, the fight against the
deforestation and the protection of the water resources,
and for his work with the indigenous communities in defense of the atmosphere.
The prize, established in 1980 for the writer and former
member of the European Parliament Jacob Von Uexkull that consists of 268.000
dollars, according to Montenegro, it will be used for new pending tasks, as the
production of documentaries to diffuse diverse problematic.
