OF MAGALLÓN


  Monuments  
   

Ruins of Dominicans Covent, made of brick and built in XVI and XVII centuries. It has been National Monument since 22nd December 1982 and it’s been Mankind Heritage since December 14th, 2001.

   
   

St. Lawrence parish church built in XIV century over the ruins of a Temple castle, was later renovated. It has got three covered naves with star-shaped ribbed vault and polygonal head; its main front was made in the XVII century and it is Baroque and made of brick with pilasters and curved fronton.

The Christ chapel was built in the XVIII century which has a square ground floor covered by dome with pendentives with tambour and a lantern.

   

The civil architecture at the Market place, with Renaissance houses of XVI-XVII centuries which have three floors, the front made of brick and a continuous gallery of hollows.

   

Large houses of Aragonese Renaissance are dispersed on the village.

 

    

Hermitage of the Virgin of Rosary, inside the village, it’s Baroque of XVII century.

    
   

Hermitage of St. Sebastian, which is situated nine kilometres from the village.

there are bonfires to roast potatoes.
Santa Águeda (5th February)
it is usual that the women celebrate dinners meetings.
Carnival (end of February)
there are parades and competitions of disguises.
Holy Week (April)
religious celebrations.
Saint George (23rd April)
the villagers meet in the cellars to eat together.
   
   
   
San Sebastián de la Loteta (last Sunday May)
pilgrimage and snack in the hermitage of San Sebastián.
Saint John (24th June)
there are bonfires to celebrate the summer solstice.
   
San Lorenzo (10th August)
    children amusement, terrace-bar.
    
   
   
Día de la Cruz (14th September)
"vaquillas", "toro embolado", shot of Aragonese bar, mass of  Aragonese peasants, festival of "jotas",...
     
     
  
    
Todos los Santos (1st November)
visits to the cemetery to remember to the ancestors.
Santa Cecilia (22nd November)
there are diverse musical performances in the municipality to celebrate the patron saint of the music.
Matacía del cerdo
the pig slaughter to fill the pantry for the winter.
Christmas Eve (24th December)
there is usualy a family dinner.
New Year's Eve (31st December)
eating grapes to celebrate the end of the year.
