Howard A. Anderson Junior, was in charge of  creating the miniature gorge, and the models of the warriors and horses for the jump. " The bodies were built to a scale of six inches to one foot. The jointed armatures were made of wood, with skins of latex. the costume of the rider was extremely detailed to match that worn by the actor. The face and hands of the actor were duplicated as well, including his Tartar-style moustache and swarthy skin coloring. the models were eeighted to give them the proper "heft" to react as a real body would"

At the final battle  the imperial army was driven off a high cliff to their deaths by the Cossacks.

-

Howard A. Anderson Jr " the stunt riders took over up to a point, but for the actual falls we used miniature figures tumbling over a cliff made of  fiberglass. These were scaled one inch to the foot, and were made of rubber over jointed armatures. Again, all costuming, libery and other details were added with scrupulous attention to detail. A high craking speed of 120 frames per second, carefully planned camera angles and Fraz Waxman´s magnificient musical score combined to make the sequence a dramatic highlight of the film..."
