Royal Albert Hall. London.
3rd November 2006.
ECCE COR MEUM WORLD PREMIERE.
Friday, November 3rd, 2006
Last 29 of September, appeared in the press the news of the opening of the new classic work ECCE COR MEUM, which was going to be celebrate in the Royal Albert Hall of London on November 3rd of 2006.
After verifying that it was possible to acquire entrances by the Web page of the Royal Albert Hall, we decided that it was an opportunity that we couldn’t let pass considering, with total security, that Paul would go to the event.
Therefore, on Friday 3rd we fly to London. We arrived around 11 at noon, and we took advantage of the short time that we had, to visit some places and stores that cannot be ignored.
At 6:30 in the afternoon, we went, carrying some small jewels, to the Royal Albert Hall. We went to our seat, a theatre box whose seat cost 60 pounds, and first deception, a column prevents to see the scene us with clarity.
The program was divided in 2 parts. First composed by pieces written by Paul through his career, interpreted by the Academy of St. Martin's In The Fields Orchestra.
- My Love. Interpreted by Kate Royal
- Warm and Beautiful. Interpreted by Kate Royal
- Calico Skies. Performed by Kate Royal and Andrew Staples
- Golden Earth Girl. Performed by Andrew Staples
- Some days. Performed by Andrew Staples
- Junk. Performed by Kate Royal
- Nova. Instrumental
- The World you’re coming into. Performed by Kate Royal
- Ghost Suite. Performed by Kate Royal and Andrew Staples
- Celebration. Performed by Kate Royal and Andrew Staples
After this piece of the Standing Stone the first part finalized. It was then when we could see for the first time Paul when leaving the room, between a multitude applauding to him.
It was interesting listen the versions made by these two divos of opera. Nevertheless, according to our opinion, few exceed the originals ones interpreted by Paul.
We took advantage of the interval, to acquire some pieces of merchandising. There was a great amount of products: Program (10 pounds), single candle (6 pounds), a set of candles, scarf, cap (20 pounds), handkerchief, t-shirt, polo, jacket (55 pounds).
Shortly before beginning the second part, Paul, flanked by Stella and Mary, appeared, seating in the 10th row and saluting the public before taking seat. Also we could see George Martin, his son Giles, Jeff Lynne, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour and Wix.
The second part included the four movements in which the CD is divided plus the interlude:
- I Spiritus
- II Gratia
- Interlude (Lament)
- III Musica
- IV Ecce Cor Meum
Very good interpretation of all the songs, although is certain that we were more pending to the movements of Paul that to the scenery. He seemed very communicative with Stella, which was to his left.
At the end of the performance, Paul went to the scenery and after salute Kate Royal, Andrew Staples and Gavin Greenaway, he thanked to all the public present and also he had words of gratefulness towards its family and friends. After his brief parliament, the sky of the Royal Albert Hall began to fill in with confetti in form of Heart, while Paul left the scenery
We left the place commenting Paul’s versatility on musical composition, able to create 2-3 minute’s wonders and simultaneously a classic work of 60 minutes of duration
When coming out we decided to wait, hoping we had luck and we were able to see Paul on the enclosure. Unfortunately we didn’t have luck. We were approximately 3 hours defying to a recalcitrant cold, without being able to see him. Nevertheless, the delay worth the trouble, since first we could see Jeff Beck, sensational guitarist of the 60, and later... to Jeff Lynne, also known like Otis & Clayton Wilbury and producer of the Free as a Bird and Real Love, which signed us the program and said to us that Paul had left the enclosure a lot time ago. Also it commented that Paul would make a tour the next year.
After Jeff Lynne left, and when seeing that really, there was nobody left in the enclosure, we decided to leave, since at 7 in the morning of that same dawn, we had to take the airplane and return to Barcelona.
Once again, in spite of the delays, the cold or the accumulate fatigue, the trip worth all the trouble. Now only left... wait for the next one!!!
