CÓMO ENVIAR PECES POR CORREO
HOW TO SEND FISH BY MAIL

Con la creciente popularidad de internet, cada vez es más común que algunos aficionados y profesionales ofrezcan sus peces para intercambio o venta. Llega un momento en que a nosotros también nos puede surgir la idea de mandar algunas crías que nos sobran a otras personas, pero no siempre es fácil saber qué tenemos que hacer para tener buenas posibilidades de que lleguen en condiciones a su destino. Hay que pensar que si bien un envío dentro de España lo normal es que llegue en 1 ó 2 días, si enviamos al extranjero es fácil que los peces pasen 4 ó más días hasta que sean recogidos.
As Internet becomes every time more popular, it is every day easier to see some adverts from other hobbyists or even professionals offering their fish for trade or sale. There is one moment when even some of us may think about sending some spare fry to other people. It´s not easy to know what we have to do the first time we try it. We must bear in mind that when sending fish inside Spain, they usually arrive to their destination in 1 or 2 days, but when we send them abroad, 4 days or longer should be expected.
Materiales: Bolsas de plástico, caja resistente, papeles, espuma u otro material de relleno.
Materials: Plastic bag, tough box, paper, foam or any other filling material.
Paso a paso / Step by step:
1.- El más importante de todos: Dejar a los peces 1 ó 2 días sin comer antes de empaquetarlos. Si es posible realizar un buen cambio de agua durante este tiempo.
1.- The most important one: Do not feed the fish you are going to send for 1 or 2 days before packing. When possible, do a good water change.
2.- Reserve agua limpia y desclorada en un recipiente a parte, con las mismas características del agua en que se encuentren los peces.
2.- Save some clean water in a recipient, it must have the same characteristics as the water where you keep the fish.
3.- Con los peces en un pequeño recipiente, mezcle el agua en la que estén con un 50 % de agua limpia.
3.- Put the fish in a small bucket and mix the water they are in with the clean water in a 50/50 proportion.
Hasta ahora lo que hemos hecho son los preparativos, que es la parte más importante de todas. Como se puede deducir, el objetivo es tener a los peces con el tracto digestivo limpio y en agua en las mejores condiciones posibles. De este modo habrá menos problemas de contaminantes orgánicos (nitritos, nitratos, amoniaco, etc).
So far we have been preparing the fish. In my oppinion, this is the most important part of the process. As you can guess, our goal is to have fish with an empty digestive system, and water in the best possible way. Doing this we will reduce the risks of organic compounds poisoning the water (nitrites, nitrates, amonia, etc).
4.- Capture el pez y póngalo en un pequeño vaso. Para un pez de hasta 4 cm, unos 50 ml de agua son suficientes (dependiendo del tamaño de la bolsa). Las bolsas que yo utilizo miden 10 x 25 cm. SÓLO 1 PEZ POR BOLSA.
4.- Catch the fish and put it in a small glass. For a fish up to about 4 cm, 50 ml of water are enough (depending on the size of the bag). The bags I use make 10 x 25 cm. ONLY 1 FISH PER BAG.

5.- Una vez que el pez está en la bolsa haga un nudo fuerte dejando un máximo volumen de aire, pero asegurando que en la posición más desfavorable el pez queda cubierto totalmente por el agua.
5.- Once the fish is in the bag, make a tight knot leaving a maximum volume of water, but making sure that in the worst position, the fish is well covered by water.

6.- Corte lo que sobre de la bolsa e introdúzcala hacia abajo en la segunda bolsa.
6.- Cut the excess of the bag and put it upside down in the second bag.
7.- Haga el nudo en la segunda bolsa

8.- Ya puede meter el pez en la caja.
8.- The fish is ready to go to the box.
9.- Yo utilizo cajas de porexpan, pero se pueden utilizar también cajas de cartón rígido u otros materiales.
9.- I use styrofoam boxes, but rigid carboard ones or other suitable materials can also be used.

10.- Rellene los huecos con papel de periódico, trozos de espuma, bolsas rellenas de aire o cualquier otra cosa ligera que tenga a mano.
10.- Fill the gaps with newspapers, foam, full of air bags, or whatever you happen to have at the moment.
Consejos / Tips:
Envíe los peces como "Carta urgente", el certificarlo es opcional, pero puede retrasar el envío. Para ello no debe pesar más de 2 kg y cumplir unas dimensiones reglamentarias.
Send the fish as "Urgent letter". It´s up to you if you want to certify it, but this may delay the parcel. The parcel must weigh less than 2 kg and be according to a certain size.
Mande los peces cuando las temperaturas sean las adecuadas, es conveniente evitar tanto el calor como el frío.
Send your fish when the temperature is suitable for them, you should avoid either hot or cold months.
