What is The Irregulars of Basil of Baker Street?
How did you get a name like that for a Ring?
Who else is in the Ring?
Why would I want to join?
Can I join?
How can I join?
Once I join, can I change anything?

It's a ring of websites in tribute to Basil of Baker Street, a pint-sized and lovable version of Sherlock Holmes, and his friends! The websites are either dedicated to 1986 Disney animated film, The Great Mouse Detective, or Eve Titus/Paul Galdone's Basil of Baker Street children book series, or both!

So, you don't know what a Webring is? Well, it's an easy way to simply focus on seeing lots of sites on the subject you're interested in, and only on that subject. No sifting through all the irrelevance that a search engine will vomit up.
How does it work? A group of sites with a common theme is set up so that, from the Ring logo, you can hop easily from site to site until you get to the last site, when you encircle around (hence the term "ring") and end up at the first one again. If you don't feel like site-hopping, you can even see a list of all the sites on the Ring, and pick and choose where to go.

Well, may be it is a little long, but tough cheese for you if you're not keen on the title. It's a fitting title considering the subject. The origins goes back to the original Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, starting in the second Sherlock novel, The Sign of Four. Sherlock recruited a band of street boys that assists him in his cases. He calls them "The Baker Street Irregulars." In fact, this is the name of the first and one of the most pretigious Sherlock Holmes soceities in the world!

Now in the Basil of Baker Street book, Basil in Mexico, Basil recruited a band of young street mice that assists him in his case. He calls them "The Panarado Calle Irregulars." (The literal Spanish translation is "The Baker Street Irregulars -- Hey, he is in Mexico!)
Hence the logic of calling this webring: The Irregulars of Basil of Baker Street: A Great Mouse Detective Webring.

Elementary! Hits, hits and more hits. People do browse the Rings. (Hey, I do!) They often go to the Rings rather than a search engine to find what they're looking for. Or they see the logo on someone else's site and say, "Oh, there's a whole webring on this stuff?" and follow it to your site! Joining a Web Ring is the simplest, easiest, least painful way to increase hits to your site. I promise.

Another reason is to simple get your site in a fun little place so all can see and appreicate!
And by the way, if you are late in joining the Ring, don't think you'll forever be at the bottom of the list. The list will be rearranged randomly every once in a while so that everyone gets a chance to be at the top. Don't you love democracy?

If you have a site that meets the following criteria, you, by all means, can join!

  • The subject of your site and/or page must be the 1986 Disney animated film, The Great Mouse Detective, or Eve Titus/Paul Galdone's Basil of Baker Street children book series, and/or their character(s)! (Yes, even Ratigan can join, too!)
  • Your site must be family-friendly. You know exactly what I mean!
  • Your site must be of reasonable quality and have some substance. In other words, it can't be just links (particularly dead links) to other sites.
  • You must be willing to place The Irregulars of Basil of Baker Street logo (see below) somewhere prominently, either on your homepage or on a separate page for webrings, for example.

  1. Fill out the form below to submit your site. Don't forget to include an accurate email address. That will put you in the queue.
  2. You will get an email (almost immediately) confirming that you are in the queue. (That's why I need an accurate email address.) It will include the HTML snippet for the logo.
  3. Copy the snippet for the logo onto your site's homepage or Webrings page. The email will also include the Ring ID, your site ID, and your password. Do not forget these three things!! Write them down somewhere!!
  4. When this is done, you just have to wait a bit. The Ringmaster (Hello, that's me!) will check your site. When I see the logo there, I'll move you from the queue into the Ring, and you'll get an email confirming that you're now a Ring member.
You get two weeks in the queue - that is, two weeks to put the HTML snippet on your page. If you don't, you will be taken out of the queue and have to go through this all over again. (If you have any questions or problems with anything to do with this Webring, please don't hesitate to email me, and I'll do whatever I can to answer and/or fix it!)
