Anemone

The Anemone is symbolic of all that is forsaken.  It grows wild in lonely woodland, and is therefore thought to represent sadness and forlorneness.  Anemones are named after Anemos, the god of wind, as the ancient Greeks believed that they would only open their petals when the wind blew.
According to another legend, Venus was weeping in the forest for Adonis.  Anemones sprang forth from her tears, strengthening the flower's association with grief.
