The dwarf barked the trio to order " Keep yer backs to one another or they will make easy work of us!" Waiting nervously in the middle of the road, the paladin exclaimed
Rain broke from the clouds and thunder rumbled in the distance as Vaedamir was lifted and shuffled forward towards the gates. Gulius stood barking orders for the guards to let them in. The sentries were alert and unmoving while watching the dwarf grab the bars with urgency.
Boom! Boom! " Go ahead and use your weapons now!" yelled a taunting sentry " ANGGGGG!!!" the humped creature wailed as it stepped in between the companions.
RRAAUUGGGNHHHNNN!!!
The giant monster wailed in pain and swung its' long right arm in fury at the dwarf. A crushing blow sent the fighter flying into the air hitting backfirst into the iron gates. Gulius fell to the ground in a heap to fight no more.
Nerendil and Teflar dropped the body they carried and prepared to face the swamp fiend in battle. Nerendil fended the monster away from the gate with a twirling morningstar meant to distract the roaring monster from stomping the dwarf. Cries of alarm from the sentry shacks were heard as the beast spun to face the warrior with unfettered rage. The monstrosity stepped forward only to be struck on the right knee by Nerendil.
RRAAAHGGNN!!!
With a reactionary snap of its' arm, the monster backhanded the paladin knocking him ass-first into the road. The beast charged to stomp the warrior, but its' knee buckled suddenly and it faltered dropping it to the pavement on all fours.
RRAAGGHHN! It screamed in agony while trying to right itself. No sooner had it tried to stand when Teflar leapt from the darkness and cleaved the head from the monster with a precision slice.
WHOP!
The head rolled away and the body thudded heavily upon the asphalt.
The iron gates were pushed opened
" Get inside you fools! Your exile will get you all killed! " yelled a bowman
" Throw down your weapons and hurry!"
The ranger gathered what he could in gear from the slain warrior and reformed his stance awaiting any further assault.
" Another night attack!? I can't seem to think we are any good standing here to face our deaths. We should be inside the town now for safety. I have joined folliness for sure."
Gulius tilted his head with guilt and peered into the glum darkness. Within seconds, flying rocks assailed the 'Raven' warriors. Sporadic debris and stones bounced off the pavement and a couple clattered off Nerendil's shoulder and the dwarf's thigh.
Gulius made it adamant that they press for the gates, while Nerendil thought it noble to stay with the fallen barbarian. Possible bodily transport was wise if they could heft him successfully. Teflar made the deciding notion as he looked back at Nerendil
" I feel that the town would be safest, but if you plan on standing with Vaedamir, I will leave you alone here no sooner then Gulius's town exodus." The ranger moved next to the paladin trying to gain what little protection he could from the knight's shield. Scanning the darkness, he appeared to concentrate on the thick shadows. Projectiles continued to assail the trio as they remained on the road.
Large feet stomped across the road as Gulius received a large rock off the noggin. Rubbing his head, he saw a large shambling beast come into view. Roaring in fury, the hairy monster stood like a small giant with its' large claws dragging across the pavement.
" Perhaps the shininess of your blades will stun it!"
Shouting curses up at the guards, Gulius immediately turned and heaved an axe at the large creature. The spinning blade severed the beasts' left arm at the elbow!
