Alyen listened with a pretentious air as Teflar and Nerendil explained whom they were and who they pursued.
All the while, Gulius remained out of the conversation; apparently still shaken by last night's events.
Nerendil reached up first and signed the papers silently. When finished, he said coldly " This should be proof enough that I am at the King's service. Now please let me see Vaedamir. He died last night in service for his Kingdom."
5 PM: Two hours it took the warriors to find the right place outside the township. Finally, about a half mile northwest, they found a sturdy flat rise of land where they toiled and dug a deep grave for their fallen ally.
The trio rarely spoke during their labor; they knew there was much to change once the team united. How would they explain the barbarian's untimely death?
They had a few morsals to eat for dinner when they finished, but their appetite was not to be enjoyed this evening.
The constable said strictly " There are many strangers running amuck and we are putting an end to that. Instead of expulsion, we will now arrest and jail any spies."
The clad warrior looked at the trio with a cold stare while Alyen continued
" If you are from Bethlun as you say,.." he produced official documents from his inner vestment " ...then you would have no problem signing this paperwork vowing you are in service of the King. I have met with your other half already and they agreed to the process." Alyen looked at the three " If you don't, you will be detained for questioning at our jailhouse. I don't wish to sound callous, but there has been much unnecessary turmoil since you arrived."
Constable Alyen said nothing until the other two signed as well. Rolling up the documents and tucking them into his cloak, he replied " Go ahead and bury him outside the town. It will be less red tape should Bethlun return to claim the body." Orcendro and Alyen left the trio with information on claiming the barbarian's corpse from the morgue and a store where they can purchase spades for the job.
