~ PASSAGE 51 ~
SHATTERED PROGRESS

Turning to run for the cover of trees, Hebron spun around quickly shouldering his bow. With amazing reflex, however, the owlbear reached out grabbing the archer's hair ensnaring him in its' wide, right paw. As the air assault continued to rain upon the beast, it yanked Hebron backwards off the ground. He dropped his bow and drew out a small concealed dagger in defense, but it was too late. The monster bit into the leader's head ripping it off with its' massive beak.

Splendor let out a startled cry and shot a crossbolt into the owlbear's neck. Gailwind grabbed the sunrod and ran towards the monk who started dragging the ranger to the safety of the northern trees despite his injured arm hampering him.

The owlbear shrieked and threw the archer's body away as it continually attacked all who harmed it. The huge animal stomped at the sorcerer who had no other recourse but to stand his ground wielding his quarterstaff. The owlbear snatched Splendor and threw him to the grass in a wild wrestle.
Oktavianus ran out of the bushes yelling a dwarven rage in effort to put an end to the threat.   Aramil drew closer and fired a last bolt into the scuffle piercing the owlbear's side. A quick growl threatened before an exhausted silence fell. The cleric bashed his warhammer into the slumped form of the owlbear as it laid motionless across the crushed form of Splendor.

Immediately, Leah ran to help aid the fallen warrior Teflar as he laid slumped at Torynth's knees. Gailwind administered the last of his healing elixir to revive him and, within moments, the ranger started moving. The druid cured the rest of his ailments with the healing touch of her tender hands while the bard remained hidden among the trees.

Torynth eased his battered body against a nearby tree. " I suggest we return the bodies to Bethlun. 'Raven' is shattered and our quest has failed. Perhaps others can pick up on what we have learned." He closed his eyes in despair.

Aramil shook his head sorrowfully " I wish to continue our current path, but we must adopt a more cautious attitude and aim rather than killing everything that besets us. Our loss is but for naught if we give up now; their deaths in vain!"

Teflar sat up from his prone position; bewilderment crossing his face at the destruction around him.
Leah knelt down besides the disorientated ranger
" Try to relax for a couple of minutes before getting up. Your injuries were severe and you lost track of some time. We killed the owlbear. I'm not sure if anyone checked to see if our current position is secure though." She shivered in the humid forest " I feel we need time to regroup and better plan our next move. What we've done so far hasn't accomplished much except for reducing our number. Airrdale is the closest place of safety. If we rest, then we will be able to determine our future path much better."
The mage nodded in agreement and watched Moonshade sitting in a hollow cove of an oak. The sad owl swiveled its' head scanning wide-eyed at the seven remaining companions.
