~ PASSAGE 70 ~
THE STEPS OF JUSTICE

NOON: StarPoint Raven gathered at the great justice hall that lay in the center of the city. They had gotten lost a few times, but kind folk had pointed them in the right direction. It was here they awaited the arrival of a warmarshall and the start of their pronouncement of an army.

Teflar was quiet as he shrugged off last night's ale and looked at the carved stone and mastered masonwork of the great justice building. The steps they sat upon was polished marble and reflected brightly the apical sun overhead. Gailwind had taken over the bardish duties of announcing their party to the court clerk and they had been asked to wait outside. On a nice day like this {65F), they were happy to oblige.
A few of the party still lightly debated Oktavianus's decision to wage a battle but noone seemed so against it now that they were here and hope was high for action.

Minutes later, an armored man flanked by two mercenary soldiers, approached the steps from a long, cultured path to the side of the building. His eyes were piercing and he regarded the fellowship with an unimpressed aire. He climbed the thin steps quickly and passed on by until he reached the top.

" Wait sir!" called out the Lorist " We came to see you about an impressive matter. May you be Captain Metlivon?"

The man half-turned at this calling, leaned into his sideman for a moment and then regarded the group. His face was stark serious and he awaited further comment.

The monk stepped forward " We need Pinedroi's aide. Western Zegithir is being overrun by orcs inhabiting a fortress in Nalmiar." Torynth looked to the others for consolidation and, with a nod from the dwarf, he continued " We need an army to run them out of the area."
Erelis sidled up to the monk in support " Airrdale has been destroyed as well as the Spice Caravan up north. Have you not heard, sir?"
The elegant man listened to a comment from his other sideman and then spoke quickly " I have heard of no assault on our west." He about-faced and continued on into the court of justice. StarPoint Raven stood where they were, not quite knowing how they should further proceed.

The wizard scoffed after a steel door banged shut moments later " If he was the warmarshall, then I do not blame him for his reaction. Why would he trust the word of a handful of misfits over his intelligent reports. Before anyone says that we are on a higher call, we lack the physical proof because this endeavor was to be secret. Let us drop personal feelings or past history of ending this scourge. I say we shop for goods like I had recommended when we moved into this town. We need to reassess the information and locations we were first given at the beginning of this fellowship."

Teflar let out a hearty laugh " It's settled then. We'll notify the warmarshall again, buy supplies, and then go check these rumors involving the claw markings. Oktavianus..." he looked to the dwarf " Shall we go in now? This warmarshall needs to understand the risk to Pinedroi here."

Exhaling, the cleric lowered his shoulder. He grabbed the ranger’s arm " I will not be the sole advocate of salvaging the lands. If the group agrees, I shall follow and investigate the scratches thereafter."
Everyone accepted these terms and let the cleric proceed. The dwarf cast a cold glare at the wizard " Aramil, lead the way."
