About Alden

The BandHUMIDIFIER was an incredible band that never got the recognition they deserved. Just a bunch of ordinary guys that came together while attending Fairfield University that enjoyed to play the type of music that was louder than your mom. It was actually through Fairfield University's radio station that I first was exposed to the addictive sounds of Humidifier. I was just getting into the whole punk rock thing at the time and they became one of my favorite bands while I was in high school back in Connecticut. They had a sound somewhere between the Descendents, the Violent Femmes, Superchunk, and the Treepeople. They put out some demos, some 7-inches, and an album, but eventually broke up and went their seperate ways.

Humidifier originally was:
John King: Vocals, Guitar, Bass
Denis Saulnier: Drums
Jim Wilbur: Guitar, Vocals, Bass
Joe Ryan: Guitar (left the band after college)

The members of the band went on to play in other outfits. John went on to OUR AMERICAN COUSINS and then to SPENT, Jim now plays guitar for SUPERCHUNK, Denis plays for both GLEN ECHO and PEE WEE FIST, and Joe dropped off the face of the planet.

Humidifier got back together in 1996 (minus Joe) for a few shows and to put out a reunion album, the release wasn't as raw as past efforts, but more emotional and very SPENT-sounding. Nonetheless, it was an incredible piece of work, and even had a few reworked old songs on it. This album made my year and I can only dream of future reunions.

Thanks to eveyone who helped provide info for this site:

Denis S.- for keeping me updated on eveyone's whereabouts and upcoming events. And also for being a member of a very cool band named Humidifier.

John K.- for hooking me up with the Misery Redeeming LP, which I spent quite a bit of time trying to find...and also throwing in a cool t-shirt too. Oh yeah, and for being a member of a very cool band named Humidifier.

Jim W.- I was attending Fairfield High while you were interning there, wish I coulda met ya'. Thanks for being a member of a very cool band named Humidifier...and that other band too, oh what was their name?....Superchunk?....hmmm, never heard of 'em......ha ha.

Donna N.- Thanks for letting me borrow those old Humidifier demos and rehearsal tapes. It was by mere chance that you heard my radio show up at UConn and were able to hook me up wit da' goodz!

Robert Z.- Thanks for getting in touch and hooking me up with the "John King: My New Look" stuff. Quality!

News

There was a "SPROM" ("Spam Jam" college party crossed with a Prom...it's a Fairfield U thing...) up in Boston recently with Rumors of a SPENT getting together for some songs and possibly a MEENIES reunion as well.

According to Denis, SPROM a good time. John King did attend and played solo. Glen Echo (Denis' band) played also. But Jim Wilbur couldn't attend, and neither did anyone from SPENT. John is still "working on stuff" musically - can't wait to hear it, but nothing too soon I guess.

More News? Got any? Send it to me.

...and if I get one more email from people asking what kind of humidifier they should get for their house- someone's gonna end up losing some teeth! (geez...every week! either "humidifier" is on some search-list, or someone's playin' me).
