He was born in L.A. (or close enough), but he spent virtually none of his childhood there because moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, the place that he refers to as home. His mother was a schoolteacher, but his father was an actor. Tim Affleck is a pretty well renowned stage actor who worked with people like Blythe Danner and Dustin Hoffman. Perhaps this was what sparked Ben's interest in acting. His first big "gig" was when he was eight and he landed a role on the PBS kids' series The Voyage of the Mimi. As he got older, he won roles in television movies and a Burger King commercial. If you've ever wondered what happens to the money that child actors make, Ben could tell you, as he told America on the Rosie O'Donnell Show. His mother put his money into a savings account with something like college probably in mind. Ben wasn't old enough to have the account just under his name, but he somehow found a loophole and was able to access his money. He used it to buy stuff and pick up the tabs when he and his friends ate. He pretty much drained the account and hid the bank receipts under his mattress until one day when he got caught. His mom forgave him. As he got older he was in movies like Dazed and Confused and School Ties. He went on to star in many independent films which included the Kevin Smith cult hits Mall Rats and Chasing Amy. Ben still enjoys a good professional relationship and friendship with Kevin Smith. He had a small, but pivotal role in Good Will Hunting, a movie that sent him off the independent film track and back into the mainstream. As A.J. Frost in Armageddon Ben along with the help of his newly capped teeth became something he hadn't expected: a teen idol and sex symbol. He went on to work in a variety of genres. He did a romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock called Forces of Nature. Then he did a dark comedy with his buddy Matt Damon called Dogma. He went back into the action genre when he made Reindeer Games which, despite months of shameless self-promotion by Ben, did terribly profit and review-wise. Most recently, he starred in Bounce a romantic-dramady with former girlfriend and good friend, Gwyneth Paltrow. His next movie is Pearl Harbor a big-budget, high concept movie about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor by the same director and producer who did Armageddon: Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer. Somewhere along the way, Ben's friends helped him start up his own website where he responds to fans via a message board and manages to answer so eloquently and intelligently that one instantly drops the idea that "Matt is the smart one."
