Springfield Spirit vs. Grand Rapids Blizzard
Springfield Civic Center, MA - 3/02/03

Wow! What a weekend! It was a hectic one, for sure! My friends and I, about 10 of us rented a house somewhere in Framingham, MA, and stayed there over the weekend. It was basically like renting a nearby cabin. However, I had to drive up to Salem State College on Saturday and giveaway some tickets to Spirit game. They had a women's basketball game against Worcester State College that day. Today, of course I went to Springfield for Spirit vs. Blizzard.

The visiting team got to the arena late, which forced them to start the game around 4:30 PM. If I only knew, I wouldn't have taken off from Framingham in such a hurry. Because of that, I found out that I forgot to re-charge my digital camera! It kept failing on me, so I could only take 2 practice shots. Luckily after being off for the duration of the game, it was showing a sign of coming back from the dead. I managed to take 4 pictures of Sue during the post game event, the so called "Meet and Greet with the Spirit Players". I would have consider that as an autograph session with random players going through the crowds (girl scouts) instead of sitting down behind a table.

It was a bit strange to see so many people at the game, since we haven't had any weekend games at the Springfield Civic Center. We had to see the game between people's heads most of the times. Anyhow, it was nice to see a lot of kids having fun and cheering out loud for the Spirit. Too bad the game turned out to be a blow out. The Blizzard who defeated Springfield Spirit in their previous meeting came out flat. Their shots did not fall into place and Spirit players did a great job on not letting them get away with anything.

Kara Wolters played quite well by showing how she can finish strong underneath the basket, knowing how she can be so inconsistent at times. In fact, almost everyone played well! 5 Spirit players scored double digits. Sue played a decent game, however if you notice she hasn't gotten to the line as often as in WNBA. We all know how perfect she is on free throws.

UConn is still surviving and pretty much on track coming into the Big East Championship. Best of luck to DT and the rest of the team! I'm also looking forward to the Spirit vs. Houston Stealth on Saturday the 8th, since Michelle Snow will be there along with Cheryl Swoopes and Tamicha Jackson. Good luck Spirit!
