KUALA TRERENGGANU May 8 - Noni juice producer Sure Return Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd or better known as Sureco, has expanded its business to Terengganu by appointing a stockist this year. A ceremony to appoint the stockist was held here recently, officiated by state secretary Datuk Mazlan Hashim. Sureco chief executive Dr Zainol Anuar said at the ceremony that after three months of operation, sales of the company's products had exceeded RM500,000 and that the company now has more than 2,500 members. He said that the company, which obtained its direct selling license on January 13, 2000, had initially commenced operation in August 1999 with "trading" of noni juice and cordial. After obtaining the direct selling licence, Sureco launched its direct selling at multilevel marketing, Dr Zainol added. He said that Sureco was also trying to market its products overseas and was looking for distributors to expand the company's business. Wan Rohani Hussin was appointed the stockist for Terengganu which is located at 1061-A Kampung Simpang Tok Ku, Lorong Stesyen Pemancar RTM. Dr Zainol said that apart from noni juice the company had also come out with coffee, toothpaste, shampoo, soap and other products which would strengthen the company's business. He also said that Sureco has obtained a piece of land measuring 20ha in Selangor for large scale planting of noni plants and other herbs and that the company was also making efforts to find more land in other states. Sureco which was set up on January 15, 1999 is a wholly-owned bumiputera company with a paid-up capital of RM251,000 and approved capital of RM500,000 with experienced people at the helm. The company was set up in line with the government's urge that more bumiputera entrepreneurs community be set up, which could compete actively at all levels. Apart from its office at Wangsa Maju, Sureco also has a noni plantation, mushroom plantation and its own processing plant. Dr Zainol said that research in the United States revealed that the noni juice is good for among others, heart problems (up to 80 percent), diabetes (86 percent) and cancer (67 percent). He also said that the public need not worry about taking noni juice produced from the plants grown locally as the juice is also at par with overseas products. He pointed out that Malays had used the noni fruit and leaves for a long time as a form of medication. Also present at the ceremony were Sureco's managing director Rasid Abdullah and Research and Development and Alternative Treatment Adviser Prof Dr Sir Mugeni Samerin.
