Stupid Peikko Saves Christmas
Story by Webmaster Etelämäki
Far above Etelämäki Village everyone could see a bright light. Then, they heard Santa call out...On Dasher, On Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen, on Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen...Off we Go...And a Merry Christmas to all !!! And with the sound of a mighty wind they were off.

Peikko and Rudolf watched this scene from the Edge of the Village. Peikko, try as he might, in his suit of green, could never be a Santa Claus and Rudolf knew each kid that was naughty or nice. And so it was that even Stupid Peikko needed a little help to restore Christmas.
Just then, the villagers spied Peikko and Rudolf and began to run toward them. Peikko and Ruddie began to swirl ! And swirl, and swirl, and swirl, until they again vanished. This time something magical appeared.
From all of the swirling in the cold Arctic air small particles appeared where Peikko and Rudolf had stood. The children grabbed up some of these small particles that looked like colored ice. Some thought it was the magical "Reindeer Dust" that they had always been told made the reindeer fly. A few of the children noticed that some of the particles looked like little sticks and had red swirls while others saw green swirls. And from the bottom of each piece, the swirls moved upward in a counter-clockwise direction.
The children gazed at this strange creation. Others sniffed and said it smelled sweet and fresh.
Young Henri touched a piece to his lips and let out a holler ! Mint ! he exclaimed ! Its mint ! and very sweet too !
All of the Villagers now wanted a piece of this mint, as each believed that by eating it, they too would learn the secret of the Gnomes and be able to fly like the reindeer. Some of the Villagers did learn the secrets, but only as long as they could taste the mint in their mouths.

That Christmas was indeed the very best Christmas ever. As children around the world woke up on Christmas morning to see their presents, they also got two sticks of this strange mint. One red piece and one green piece. Now, this is how the candycane
came to be. And every Christmas since that time, children love to eat this mint and dream of distant secrets.
Peikko after Christmas
looking a bit taller than normal
Peikko and Santa completed their Holiday mission and all of the toys were delivered on time. Some of the children did encounter Peikko during his visit to their homes. But Peikko said not one word to any of them. And this is how the tale of the "green" Santa came to be. Try as he might, Peikko could never be as jolly as his Dear Cousin Santa, but after that Christmas, Peikko was never the same again.
